Lighting Session

Here are some of the shots from today to remind you about Low Key Lighting using a KEY LIGHT and/or a BACK LIGHT

This first shot is an Example of using ONLY A KEY LIGHT. Notice the harsh shadows and lack of differentiation from the background.



In The second image we see the same set up but with less glare (created when the camera is too close to a light).

The third image has a KEY LIGHT and an
added BACK LIGHT.
Note the halo effect over the shoulders and back of the head. Again; there is camera glare but this is just from being too close to the lights.

Make it Relevant!

When you are doing your research make sure you point out WHY it is relevant and useful to you.

If you analyse a video you need to say why the notes you've made will affect your project.

E.g. If a film has a close up shot to emphasise a dramatic reaction and you point it out in your analysis; say how this could change your mind about your shots. Etc.

Evaluation Question 1 Tip

A good way to get good grades in your evaluation, especially question 1, would be to use the What DID? What IF/WOULD? method.

What DID? What did you actually do in relation to practices and how did you relate your video to your research in conventions?

What IF/WOULD? If you could do the video again what would you do differently to improve it (regarding Conventions in this case) and WHY would you do it?

A Word About Plagiarism

It seems very tempting to cut and paste - don't! It's vital that you put your thinking and explanations into your own words, especially when it comes to coursework. Many teachers and examiners now use services such as TurnItIn.com which instantly references your work against, well, the entire internet. Even more simply, your teacher can Google a phrase from your essay and find all other instances of its occurence online - you are immediately busted. DON'T DO IT.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
